KABUL (SW): De Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS), the power utility has fired some 30 members of its staff on charges of forged meter reading.
Waheedullah Tawhidi, spokesman for the DABS told Salam Watandar that these meter readers have been charged with fraudulent meter readings, asking for bribes and tempering with electricity meters. He added that the cases of these individuals have been referred to the judicial organs. Wahidi warned that any DABS staffer found guilty of asking for bribe or not performing duty in line with the norms would be terminated.
Citizens in the capital Kabul have long been complaining against inflated electricity bills. Talking to Salam Watandar, Dawood Sha, a resident of Macroryan IV, said that tempering in the reading by meter readers have often caused him and his neighbors pay highly inflated bills for electricity.
De Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) has also urged the citizens to cooperate with them in their fight against corruption and better service delivery.
