DABS extorts money from users

KABUL (SW): Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) in the Wednesday’s session blamed Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), the power utility, for illegally billing the general public for the dues owed by powerful individuals.

Nahid Farid, a member of the house, said the DABS is illegally charging general public. “The DABS is over charging users of the utility in net metering”, added Farid. She urged the WJ to abolish the utility company, and transfer its duties to the Ministry of Energy and Water.

Ramazan Bashar Dost, another member of the house, told the house that the DABS has increased utility charges due to inflation of the afghanis against the dollar as the company has paid the electricity charges to the source country in advance.

But, Wahidullah Tawhidi, spokesman for the DABS, rejected all these allegations. He told Salam Watandar the metering system used by the DABS is modern, and has no flaws. “The company updates the electricity purchase contracts with the source countries every year. The rate of imported electricity is paid at the end of year to the exporting country”, justified Tawhidi.
