JALALABAD (SW): Authorities at the provincial customs office in Nangarhar have informed about an evident rise in revenue collection during the first quarter of the financial year.
The officials said compared to the last year, the first quarter revenue this year indicate an increase of up to 4.14 million afghanis. They added that in the first quarter, the provincial customs office had collected a total of 2.5 billion afghanis as income while last year’s total custom revenue amounted to 12.3 billion afghanis.
Elham-u-Din Mazhar, director at the provincial customs office, said the main reason for the increase in customs revenue is the electronic system installed at the customs office. He added other reforms in the provincial customs office have also played role. The director of the provincial customs officer acknowledges the existence of corruption, but said efforts are underway to completely eliminate this menace.
Bashir Dodyal, an economist, talking to Salam Watandar said the introduction of e-system in customs is the most effective and easiest way to eliminate corruption.
