KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Industry and Trade announced on Saturday that the Torkham crossing point with Pakistan will be open six days a week for 24 hours.
According to the officials, the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing in Kandahar will also be open six days a week with additional working hours.
Ajmal Ahmadi, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, tweeted today (Saturday, May 17) that Afghanistan's exports will begin through these crossings after Eid al-Fitr.
The head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade added that the government is trying to provide all the necessary facilities for traders to make it easy to use in the export and import sector.
Meanwhile, the Afghan embassy in Islamabad has announced that the Pakistani government has opened the Torkham crossing to the number of Afghans trapped in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar, told Salam Watandar that about 5,000 passengers were expected to enter Afghanistan on Saturday.
The Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings were closed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. But, Pakistan recently announced that the crossings would be open only five days a week to trade.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade said the closure of the crossing had affected the prices of imported goods and created problems for traders.
