MAIMANA (SW) – The Taliban have blocked all roads leading to the Pashtunkot district in Faryab and Pasaband district in Ghor resulting in severe shortage of food supplies.
According to the officials, the rebels are not allowing anyone even to transport basic food items to these areas over the charge of cooperating with the government.
Abdul Baseer Qaderi, member of the Ghor provincial council, said the Pasaband district is under the siege of the Taliban for the past eight months. He added this has resulted in dearth of food items in the district. He added the price per liter of petrol has surged to AFN 130 in the district.
Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, has acknowledged the district is under strict economic blockade by the rebels. He added efforts are underway to end this blockade through mediations by the local elders and community development councils.
In the meantime, officials in Faryab have reported that the Pashtunkot district of the province is under the siege by the Taliban for a month now.
Wali Mohammad, a member of the local uprising force in the district, told Salam Watandar so far three children and two women have died due to this siege.
The local officials have urged the government to take immediate and effective steps to break this crippling siege.
