KABUL (SW): Police officials at Kabul police headquarter said at a news conference in Kabul today that the crimes’ level in Kabul have been reduced by 50 percent in the past month due to police’s effort to arrest suspected criminals, detected and destroyed explosives, collected narcotics and the drug addicts from the streets of Kabul.

According to a report released to the media, in the past month only, 285 people have been charged with various crimes, and 124 of them including 9 children and 2 women have been referred to prosecutor’s office and their cases have been sent to court.

Mohammad Dawood Amin, police commander of 101 zone of Asmayi Kabul said that they launched 116 independent and joint operations last month to fight narcotics and drugs smuggling which resulted in the collection of about 2000 drug addicts who have been admitted to rehabilitation centers.

According to Amin, 200 people who were harassing women on the streets have also been arrested but released under the bill. However, some residents of Kabul were very suspicious of this report and claimed that crime in the city has not yet diminished.

Mohammad Jabar, a resident of Chahar Qala of Wazir Abad Kabul said that the presence of police is low in their area and between 10 pm to 12 am thieves have been looting people in the area and have taken people’s money and cell phones from them.

Noman, another resident of Kabul said the security situation in Kabul has gotten worse, and the economic hardship can be the reason for the insecurity and robbery.

Kabul residents have always complained against the police behavior with people and have said that in some cases police have been a partner with criminals, however, these allegations have always been denied by the Ministry of Interior officials.

Meanwhile, the reports of police achievements have been released, because, a month ago, the MoI has promised to make changes in the police rankings and fight corruption within the police forces to improve the police performances in the Kabul city area.
