KABUL (SW) – The Afghanistan Cricket Board on Tuesday named squads for the forthcoming matches against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
Chief selector Andy Moles named two different sets of squads for the single test match and a T-20 series. Shahpur Zadran, who remained out of action for past many years has managed to earn a place in the test squad. Emerging youngsters from the A-team, Ibrahim Zadran, Rehman Gurez and Qais Ahmad also managed to make it to the official squad.
However, Usman Ghani, Ziaur Rehman, Syed Sherzad and Samiullah Shinwari have been dropped from the T20 team. Other prominent fast bowlers in the domestic ring such as Wafadar Momand, Zia Sharifi and Najab Massoud also failed to impress the selectors.
T-20 Squad:
Rashid Khan (Captain), Asghar Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Hazratullah Zazai, Najeeb Tarakai, Mujeeb Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Najib Zadran, Shahidullah Kamal, Karim Janat, Gulbadin Naib, Farid Ahmad Malik, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Fazal Niazai, Dawlat Zadran, Naveedul Haq and Rehmatullah Ghurbaz
Test Squad:
Rashid Khan (Captain), Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Ihsanullah Janat, Ibrahim Zadran, Rehmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Ikram Alikhel, Zahir Khan Pakteen, Javid Ahmadi, Sayed Ahmad Shirzad, Yameen Ahmadzai, Asif Zazai, Shahpoor Zadran and Qais Ahmad.
Reports suggest only Gulbudin Naib, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rehmat Shah and Ikram Alikhel managed to successfully pass the fitness test. The squads would leave for the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday for a month-long fitness camp before departing for Bangladesh for the official matches.
