KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has named final squad for the forthcoming tour of West Indies.
Two separate teams have been named for the One Day International (ODI) and the T-20 Series. The much anticipated return of fast bowler Hameed Hassan and all-rounder Mirwais Ashraf proved short lived as neither of them feature in either of the squads.
Among the salient features of the selection is the selection of attacking batsman Najib Zabran only in the T20 squad. Opening flamboyant batsman Shahzad Mohammadi is not part of the team that would tour West Indies due to the ban imposed on him for doping.
The selection committee has picked hard-hitting wicket-keeper batsman Shafiqullah Shafaq to replace Shahzad in both formats, while Afsar Zazai – who is also a wicket-keeping batsman, has only been picked for the T20. Nawroz Mangal, the chief selector, said on the occasion of announcing the teams that the West Indies team is quite experienced, hence balanced teams have been picked to put-up strong competition.
Afghanistan National Cricket team would be playing a series of 3 T20 and 3 ODI with West Indies. The series of both formats will be hosted by West Indies. The T20 series will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts on June 2, 3 and 5 and ODIs series will be played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on June 9, 11 and 14.
The team for ODI: Noor Ali, Mohammad Javed, Usman Ghani, Asghar Stanikzai [C], Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shinwari, Rahmat Shah, Gubaden Naib, Rashid Khan, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Shapoor Zadran, Amir Hamza, Fareed Malik, Dawlat Zadra, Nsir Jamal, Afsar Zazai, Naveenul Haq, Sharafuddin Ashraf.
