Cricket: Inzimam likely to retain the head coach’s post

KABUL (SW): Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has hinted to extend the contract of Inzimamul Haq as the head coach.

Nasimullah Danish, the ACB President has said soon a long-term contract would be signed with the former Pakistani skipper who helped the Afghan squad achieve an historic victory against Zimbabwe last week. Afghanistan overpowered the full International Cricket Council member state in a 5 One Day International Series by 2-3.

At the moment Inzimam has only been engaged for the Zimbabwe series. The world class batsman of his era, Inzimam changed the batting order in the Afghan team and promoted all-rounder Mohammad Nabi to bat at no.3. This paid off with Nabi going on to score a century and a half century in the five match series.

In his own 15-years long career, Inzimam played 120 tests and 378 ODIs. He has scored 8830 runs with an average of 49.6 in tests while 11739 run with an average of 39.5 in ODIs. Inzimam was regarded as one of the best middle order batsman of his time.
