Credibility of online courses questioned

10/02/2017

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has made it clear the degrees and certificates obtained from online sources are not reliable.

Many students across the country have resorted to online education and distance courses over the years due to their busy schedules. But, corruption has made the reliability of the online courses questionable. Authorities at MoHE have said due to forgery and lack of regulations for these courses their degrees and certificates are not reliable.

Faisal Amin, spokesman for the MoHE, has said the Ministry has initiated efforts to regulate this sector. “We will learn from the experiences of the developed countries who have credible online courses on offer for Afghanistan”, Amin told Salam Watandar.

There are many graduates with certificates from online sources serving in the public as well as in the private sector. Tahir Rasooli works in a private company with a degree from one of the online universities. He claims there is not much of a difference between the online and regular degrees. “Both have same stamps and credibility of a university”, he said.

Mohammad Amin Reshadat, a university student, says online education is a new phenomenon in the country which is beneficial to the students.  He urged the government to pay attention to the online education.
