KABUL (SW) – At least one hundred health workers at the dedicated hospital for coronavirus patients in Kunduz are likely to be sacked.
According to reports, the Ministry of Public Health has handed over this hospital to a German non-government organization that is likely to terminate up to 100 health workers out of an estimated 162 currently working there.
Ainuddin, one of the health workers at the hospital, said the management had inked only a three-month working contract with staff, and fired them before even paying their salaries. Leeda Amiri, a female health worker at this hospital, said they should have been informed about this in advance. She charged the newly appointed people here got the jobs through connections and bribe.
Meanwhile, Amruddin Wali, a member of the provincial council, told SW that questions related to this hospital should now be discussed with the German NGO. The office bearers of this NGO, however, declined to comment.
Ehsanullah Fazli, spokesman for the directorate of health, said in this regard that he has no reports about management of the hospital being handed over to the foreign NGO.
Latest updates by the Ministry of Public Health indicate 262 new cases of the coronavirus have been registered in the country during the past 24 hours. It said in a statement that with the registration of the new cases, the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country reaches 6,664.
According to the statement, 2 patients died and seven others recovered during the past 24 hours. This comes as the total number of recovered patients rises to 784 and the death toll reaches 169.
