COVID-19 – Health minister unhappy with doctors fleeing from responsibility

23/04/2020

KABUL (SW) – The Ministry of Public Health on Thursday complained against some public health workers and doctors in connection to their limited role in the fight against the coronavirus.

The Minister of Public Health, Firozuddin Feroz, told a news conference that a number of doctors and health workers were resigning due to the spread of the coronavirus. He said those health workers who are not cooperating in fight against the coronavirus in the current crisis would not be forgiven nor forgotten by the public.

The minister said there was still a "psychological fear" at the hospitals, despite the provision of protective equipment for health workers, especially at the Afghan-Japan hospital, and some health workers and doctors were fleeing.

The Minister of Public Health criticized the lack of cooperation between a number of doctors and health workers, while the findings of a study by the Human Rights Commission showed that the Afghan-Japan hospital in Kabul does not meet global health standards and has many shortcomings.

The Ministry of Public Health once again stated that the only way to prevent the increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus is to impose restrictions on movement in the cities and the return of health care providers to duty.

So far, the number of people infected with the coronavirus in 32 provinces has reached 1,226, of which 40 have died and 177 have recovered.
