MAIMANA (SW): A young boy and girl in Faryab province have been killed by the girl’s relatives on the charges of having an affair.

Officials in Qaisar district have confirmed the incident that took place in the Kohi village. Rehmatullah Qaisari, the district chief told Salam Watandar that the boy aged around 20 and the girl 19 loved each other, and wished to get married. He added that the girl’s relatives were against it who eventually killed the two.

The district chief blamed the girl’s uncle named Abdullah Pahlawan, a former security official, for brutally killing the love birds upon knowing about their affair. “They have been killed by Abdullah Pahlawan on a bright day, everyone saw it, the girl has been buried and the body of the boy was brought to a ground for Buz Kashi”, he added.

Abdul Kareem Yourish,  spokesman for the provincial governor, said in this regard that the boy named Muhibullah was a native of Beraka village and the girl named Sama was residing in the Kohi village. He added that investigations into the incident are underway but no one has been arrested so far.

The local chapter of the Independent Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has urged upon the authorities to seriously pursue this case and bring the culprits to justice.

Few months ago, similar incidents occurred in the province’s Dawlat Abad and Garziwan districts.
