KABUL (SW) – The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members have advised regional and neighboring countries not to portray the Taliban as heroes.
During the session here on Saturday, the MPs said some countries have finally unveiled their ties with the Taliban on the pretext of ensuring peace in Afghanistan, which undermines the authority of the Afghan government.
The parliamentarians stressed the U.S should also concentrate all efforts at paving way for Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process, and putting an end to other parallel maneuvers.
A number of WJ members noted some countries are keeping their secret ties with the Taliban for their own interests.
Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said on the occasion all other efforts bypassing the Afghan government amount to interference. He stressed the Kabul government should enter peace process from a position of strength.
This comes days after the Iranian foreign minister, Jawad Zarif, said in an interview with an Indian broadcaster that the Taliban should be given a share in the future government set-up. This invited criticism from Kabul, criticizing the Iranian minister for speaking on behalf of the rebels.
