KABUL (SW) – The Council of Presidential Candidates on Thursday vowed not to accept results of the elections.
Addressing a meeting of the CPC, Ahmad Wali Massoud, charged the government and the Independent Election Commission for striving for the interests of the leading candidates only. He added repeated calls for the establishment of an interim government for the polls were rejected by the government and the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahab Hakimi, another presidential candidate, said a new government should be set-up to spearhead efforts for peace and elections in the country. He claimed thousands of biometric verification devices got stolen and other forms of rigging took place in the presidential polls.
The CPC expressed no confidence in the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan.
However, the deputy spokesman at the IEC, Ali Iftikhari, rejected these allegations.
