KABUL (SW): Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Unity Government (NUG), has said corruption in the security sector is impeding headway on this front.
Addressing a moot on reforms and counter-corruption in the security sector, the CEO stressed this issue can be tackled by strictly following the law, rules and procedures. Abdullah stressed the NUG is fully committed for serious fight against corruption. He said leaders of the NUG regularly receive reports about lack of arms and ammunition for the security forces in some areas which are later followed by reports about illegal sale of arms and ammunition from the same areas.
Abdullah stressed this phenomenon helps the armed militants equip themselves, weaken the security forces and promote corruption. The CEO termed corruption leading to the fall of forces and disappearance of arms as frightening.
Mohammad Farid Hamidi, the Attorney General (AG), said on the occasion that the views from various relevant quarters have been collected to streamline anti-corruption moves. He denounced the war crimes committed by militants in Sar-i-Pul's Mirza Olang village, and vowed the culprits would be brought to justice.
The two-day moot on anti-corruption ways and means was launched by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani at the Arg (Presidential Palace) on Wednesday. It concluded today.
