KABUL (SW): Allegations of corruption worth millions against the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and the head of the parliament secretariat Khadaynar Nusrat once again echoed in the session on Monday.
Homayoun Homayoun, the first deputy speaker, told the house that contrary to the order of house , Ibrahimi has appointed five more commissions to investigate the corruption charges against him and the head of the secretariat despite the fact that on the basis of a parliamentary decision, four committees were already tasked to examine the charges.
However, Ibrahimi told the house on the occasion that the letter sent to the Prosecutor General’s Office is in accordance with the law and is based on the decree of the house in this regard.
A number of parliamentarians – including Fawzia Kofi and Saleh Mohammad Saljukhi – insisted that the charges levelled against the speaker and the head of parliament secretariat should be investigated by the designated commissions.
Last month, Ibrahimi and Nusrat were accused of building personal residences for themselves with public funds.
