KABUL (SW): Officials at the Swiss UMEF University in Kabul said that the Ministry of Higher Education’s approach to them is “biased and clumsy”.
According to them, the Swiss UMEF University has received its license in 2013 to start its operation in Afghanistan, but the Ministry of Higher Education announced two years ago that its activities are illegal in Kabul. However, High Court investigations showed that the University has been conducting its operations legally.
Nick Mal, the chancellor of the Swiss UMEF University in Afghanistan said that after it was proved that the university has been operating legally in Kabul, the High Court issued a decree on the legality of the Swiss UMEF University operation in the country, though, some individuals inside the Ministry of Higher Education have started a rumor against the university.
Nick Mal added that although their case was decided in the High Court, the Ministry of Higher Education once again intervened and have said that the university had violated the law.
We did not succeed to have the opinions of the officials at the MoHE despite multiple calls.
The Swiss UMEF University officials called on the government to not allow the MoHE and other institutions to intervene in their case, and to hold a joint meeting of the MoHE officials and representatives of Swiss UMEF University in Kabul to solve this issue.
