FAIZABAD (SW): Governor’s office in northern province Badakhshan informed of Taliban’s offensives in Khash district.
Nawid Forotan, spokesman for the governor in the province, said that the militants conducted offensives in a bid to capture Khash district but their offensives were foiled by the security forces. He said that the fighting inflicted heavy casualties on the militants.
Taliban however issued a statement which said that they have captured all the security checkpoints in the district.
The statement said that the district has been besieged and all they routes end up to district have been closed to the security forces.
Taliban have said that the offensives have been part of their Omari Operation and claimed that in addition to several villages in the district, three villages in Jurm district have also been overrun by them.
The militants have also claimed that the security forces have sustained heavy casualties.
Nawid Forotan, spokesman for the governor, said that the security forces currently have full control of all the villages in Khash district.
He said that the militants continue to prepare for more offensives to capture the district.
Local officials in the province said that the security forces have the potential to thwart any Taliban’s offensives in the province.
