Concerns over the extinction of wildlife in Ghazni

24/03/2017

GHAZNI CITY (SW): Authorities at the provincial chapter of National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) say residents of several districts of Ghazni province are poaching wild animals and rare birds.

The provincial NEPA authorities claimed security forces instead of protecting the wild animals and birds indulge themselves in hunting too.

Shabir Ahmad Ahmadyar, member of provincial chapter of NEPA, talking to Salam Watandar said residents of Nawar, Jaghato, Qara Bagh districts and other areas of the province hunt deer and wild birds excessively. “If the excessive hunting of wild animals and birds is not prevented, the wildlife will be lost once again”, warned Ahmadyar.

According to Shabir Ahmad Ahmadyar, police and other security entities have not cooperated with them to prevent poaching of the wildlife.

Hamidullah Nawruz, representative of Jaghato district council, said in the past 4 years hunting of wildlife has become a common practice among the village residents of the province. “Government officials, warlords and civilians poach wildlife which will result in the extinction of such animals”, worried Nawruz.

Meanwhile, Gen Aminullah Amarkhel, provincial police chief, told Salam Watandar that he was not aware of excessive hunting of wildlife in Ghazni. “Now we are determined to prevent it”, assured Amarkhel.
