KABUL (SW) – The Presidential Candidates' Council has said the electoral complaint commission cannot address the issues related to the presidential polls.
This comes two days after the announcement of the preliminary results. Members of the council declared the preliminary results of the election as unacceptable and said it has aggravated the crisis.
Meanwhile, Qasim Eliassi, a member and spokesperson for the Independent Election Complaints Commission, has said that up to 4,500 complaints have been filed by the Stability and Partnership team alone, and that number of complaints is on the rise.
However, Faredone Kwazun, a spokesman for the Stability and Partnership team led by Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, has said in a social media post that over 6,000 complaints have been lodged with the IECC.
On the other hand, Shah Hussein Murtazavi, cultural adviser to President Ashraf Ghani, also wrote on his Facebook page that the State-Builder electoral ticket has documented 1,200 complaints so far, and that number is on the rise. Murtazavi claimed that of the 26,000 biometric ballots canceled, 20,000 belong to the State-Builder team.
The Independent Election Commission on Sunday announced the preliminary results of the presidential election. According to it, President Ghani came on top with 50.64 percent of the votes, and Chief Executive Abdullah came second with 39.52 percent of the votes.
