KABUL (SW): A number civil society activists urged the government on Thursday to ensure security on the highways across the country.
Speaking at a press conference, the civil society activists pointed to the very recent abduction and killing of civilians on Kabul-Takhar Highway, and said that the government has been ineffective in protecting civilians’ lives.
Fardin Fada’ee, head of the Afghanistan’s Union of Civil Society, said on the occasion that the government must take all possible measures to liberate the hostages who were kidnapped by the Taliban from Kabul-Takhar Highway earlier this week.
In a separate press conference, Ainuddin Baig, a member of the Social Justice Movement, said that the security forces have not been effective enough to secure the highways. He asked the government to nab the Taliban sympathizers within and outside the government.
On the other hand, thousands of citizens protested against the recent abduction and murder of passengers who were abducted from Kabul-Takhar highway. They asked the government to stop ‘double-standard’ policy towards the Taliban. These activists requested the government to pronounce the Taliban as a terrorist group in the UN’s Security Council.
