KABUL (SW): Building on its economic interests in mineral-rich Afghanistan, the government of China has assured to help improve security in the capital Kabul.
China is ready to improve security situation in Afghanistan by installing modern monitoring machines at the four main entrances to the capital Kabul, Deng Xijung, Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan, said this while meeting the National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar.
According to Mr. Atmar’s office, the meeting took place Monday evening at his office. The Ambassador expressed optimism that the measure would help security forces in detecting explosives material and thoroughly inspect heavy vehicles. Mr Deng Xinjung further said that the Chinese government would also train security forces on how to install and use these scaners.
He emphasized that China was committed to equip and support security forces and maintain security in Afghanistan.
The Afghan National Security Advisor thanked people and the government of China for their support. Atmar added that China’s assistances over the past decade for restoring peace and ensuring economic uplift in Afghanistan speaks volume about the friendly ties between the two neighboring countries.
Role of China has been of vital importance in convincing its longstanding ally Pakistan for playing its part in launching peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government.
Reports have it that China is also planning an increased economic role in Afghanistan via its Silk Road initiative and through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to reports, more than $250 billion worth of projects – from railways to power plants – have been contracted since the "One Belt, One Road" initiative announced in 2013 for the whole region.
