KABUL (SW): China on Tuesday inked a deal with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to provide financial grant worth $ 72 million to Afghanistan.
Chinese Ambassador in Afghanistan Yao Jing and the Minister of Finance Eklil Hakimi signed the agreement. Hakimi said on the occasion the grant would be used on housing projects, infrastructure development projects, mining, dams, water management and irrigation. The Minister said China has expressed willingness to support expanding fibre optic cable network and railway network in Afghanistan.
The Chinese Envoy reiterated Beijing’s resolve in supporting the rebuilding drive in Afghanistan. He stressed upon the need for transparent utilization of the grant. According to the Afghan officials, China had promised to grant up to $ 330 million to Afghanistan in 2014, and the latest agreement is in line with that pledge.
