Chief of Parwan Ulema Council killed in Charikar

CHARIKAR (SW): The Chief of Ulema Council in Parwan province and six children studying at his seminary have died an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 07:40 a.m in the Charikar city, the capital of Parwan province. According to the security officials, Mawlavi Abdul Rahim Shah Hanafi, the head of provincial Ulema Council, and six of his students died in the attack. Eight more civilians got wounded in the blast.

Mohammad Zaman, the provincial security chief, told Salam Watandar, the explosive device was placed under a blanket. Four people have been arrested over suspicion.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has condemned the attack. “The terrorist groups that have no belief in any religious value or human rights, have time and again achieved the goals of others by killing religious scholars, women and children, and by attacking sacred places”, he said in a message. The Afghan President has vowed to crush the terrorists.
