KABUL (SW): The Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) on Saturday pronounced Charikar City Municipality as the best among nine cities it evaluated in terms of civic services.
The results are based on a survey conducted to evaluated 16 different sectors of services delivered to citizens in nine cities. 11 of these services were directly related to municipalities while the rest of five were related to other areas of good governance such as freedom of speech, transparency and accountability etc.
Syed Ikram Afzali, director of the IWA, said on the occasion that Kabul, Bamyan, Charikar, Mahmood Raqi, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad, Gardez, Kunduz and Herat cities have been evaluated. Among them, Gardez was at the bottom while Charikar at the top in terms of citizens’ content.
In terms of the capital city Kabul, Afzali said residents here have witnessed a 3 per cent improvement in civic services in comparison to the year before.
Abdullah Habibzai, interim Mayor of Kabul, told the gathering that the capital city has a significantly large population with greater expectations. Without naming anyone, he lamented that the powerful individuals create hurdles in their operations.
