KABUL(SW): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah has said that bringing peace is the top priority of the Afghan government but lack of support from the countries involved in the issue have created hurdles. He said this while speaking at the Council of Foreign Relations. He said that the Government in Afghanistan started efforts for peace right from the start.
In an indirect reference to Pakistan, Abdullah said it was expected that the neighboring countries would help but instead their insincere efforts caused troubles. Two months ago, the first session of Peace Talks with the Taliban was held in Muree, Pakistan and it was promised the second round would be held soon. The revelation about the death of Mullah Omar led to the postponement of the second round of talks.
The CEO told Council of Foreign Relations that the Government of Afghanistan faced numerous challenges and has now emerged from those. “Afghanistan has made progress in a number of sectors with the support of the international community”. He said that the formation of the Government of National Unity was an unprecedented move and he along with the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani are working together to fulfill the promises made with the people. He praised the Afghan security forces for bravely defending their motherland. Abdullah Abdullah urged the international community to provide much needed support for the security forces. The CEO is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly and have some more important meetings.
