KABUL (SW): The World TB Day was observed at the Sapidar Palace with the presence of the CEO Abdullah Abdullah, the Minister of Public Health, and a number of local and foreign officials.
Abdullah Abdullah said the National Unity Government (NUG) has taken serious steps to fight tuberculosis, however, it is not enough. Abdullah Abdullah called on the media to inform the public about tuberculosis.
He said international cooperation and people’s efforts to fight tuberculosis have helped increase the number of diagnostic centers from 10 to 2,300.
According to Abdullah Abdullah, in previous years, people were coming from remote areas to Kabul for the treatment of tuberculosis; however, currently, TB centers are active across the country.
The World TB Day is observed, while according to the statistics, the number of tuberculosis patients has increased in recent years, recounting the inability of the Ministry of Public Health to fight the disease.
In 1996, the World Health Organization (WHO) named the 24th March as the World TB Day to raise public awareness about tuberculosis.
