KABUL (SW): Latest reports suggest that the second round of peace talks between the Afghan government and Taliban would soon be held in China.
Sources close to the talks told SW, Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani and high-profile Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor will join the talks.
Earlier, Pakistani media reported that Islamabad and Beijing are willing to continuo playing the role of facilitators.
Shahzada Shahid, spokesman for the High Peace Council told SW that a woman will also accompany the government delegation for the second round of talks. He added more emphasis will be placed on confidence building measures in the talks. Shahid noted that ceasefire will be one of the main points on the agenda.
Shahid further said that in order for the peace process to be successful the government too should take practical measures.
First round of talks were held on Wednesday (08 July) in Pakistan’s tourist resort Muree in the presence of U.S. and Chinese observers. Both the government and the Taliban acknowledged the talks and expressed the willingness to continuo.
