KABUL (SW) – Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said on Sunday the presidential candidates are concerned about potential abuse of state resources for electoral campaigns.
He said this addressing cabinet meeting here. The CE said all necessary arrangements would be ensured for the forthcoming presidential elections. Abdullah said the government would support all proposals aimed at ensuring state resources are not abused for electoral campaigns.
He cautioned it should be kept in mind that the government is bound to provide services to the people, which cannot be disrupted in this regard.
Underlining the resolve towards holding fair and timely elections, Abdullah said the Independent Election Commission has shared its proposals with the government. He urged the electoral commissions to streamline and expedite their operations in line with the electoral schedule.
Abdullah lamented that the Taliban are determined to continue with the fight, and it has hindered practical steps for peace. He added the insurgents insist upon fighting even in the holy month of Ramadan.
It is worth noticing that the ‘Loya Jirga’ (grand consultative session of elders) for peace issued a 23-point resolution last month calling for ceasefire across the country.
