HARARE (SW): Captain of Afghanistan’s National Cricket team has said Friday’s defeat in a maiden One Day International against Zimbabwe was the worst day for his squad.
Zimbabwe thrashed Afghanistan by 8 wickets in Queen's Sports Club, Bulawayo. The Afghans were dismissed for just 122 after winning the toss. Najibullah Zadran and Dawlat Zadran were joint top scorer with 25 in an innings where the highest partnership, 27 runs, came for the ninth wicket.
Zimbabwe wasted little time in knocking off the runs, completing victory in the 24th over, with Chamu Chibhabha leading the way with 58 off 69 balls.
Talking to journalists after the defeat, Asghar Stanikzai vowed to turn the tide round in the next encounters. He appreciated good bowling and fielding efforts by the hosts. He added 200 could have been a winning total.
He said the visiting side would try to address the shortcomings it had in the first match. Afghanistan would take on Zimbabwe for the second ODI on Sunday. Zimbabwe leads the five-ODI series with 1-0.
