KABUL (SW) – A number of political analysts have dismissed concerns that the recent rift between India and Pakistan over Kashmir may affect the Afghan peace process.
Previously, Pakistan linked its problem with India over Kashmir to the Afghan peace process and sought to pressure the U.S. in this regard. Political analyst Younus Fakoor said the Kashmir issue has nothing to do with the Afghan peace process and this is a historic problem between India and Pakistan.
According to him, the U.S. will not give in to the pressure by Pakistan this time.
Earlier, a Pakistani senator had said that Pakistan would not cooperate in the Afghan peace process until the United States and the international community resolved the Kashmir dispute.
Another well-known analyst, Mohibullah Sharif, said the U.S. had previously accepted a number of demands by Pakistan, the most notable of which was to put a Baluch separatist group on the terrorist list. According to him, now the Americans have separated the issue of Afghan peace from the Kashmir issue and the recent Kashmir issue will not affect the Afghan peace process.
Rostam Shah Mohmand, Pakistan's former ambassador to Afghanistan, said though some people in Pakistan have linked Kashmir issue to Afghan peace process, but the fact is that Kashmir issue has nothing to do with Afghan peace process and Kashmir conflict is only between Pakistan and Pakistan.
