KABUL (SW) – Campaign for the forthcoming parliamentary elections would commence from September 28, the Independent Election Commission announced on Tuesday.
Syed Hafeezullah Hashimi, spokesman for the IEC, told a presser here that the candidates should spend only limited amount of resources in line with the Article 77 of the electoral law. He said the limits of expenses on the electoral campaign are set in accordance to the relevant constituencies, population and number of voters.
According to the spokesman, maximum campaign budget is set for the capital Kabul while minimum is for the Logar province based on above mentioned factors. A candidate is allowed to spend no more than AFN 2.12 million in Kabul, and no more than 0.89 million Logar province.
The IEC also directed public sector employees and security officials to remain neutral and committed to fair and timely elections.
The electoral campaign would conclude on October 18. The IEC has directed the candidates to remove all campaign material from their constituencies once the campaign ends.
