KABUL (SW): Residents of Jaghori in Ghazni province have called for upgrading this district to the status of a province.
Group of residents from the district gathered in Kabul on Thursday to express their opposition towards the likely division of the district into 3 more districts proposed by the Sarwar Danish, the 2nd Vice President, and Mohammad Mohaqiq, Deputy to the Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah.
Participants of the gathering said the government cannot disintegrate the district without the votes and consent of the residents. Assadullah Ensafi, leader for the movement, said based on the Article 136 of the Afghan Constitution, and other relevant laws of the country, Jaghori district has the capacity to become a province.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Hedayat, media advisor for the 2nd VP’s office, told Salam Watandar a proposal by Sarwar Danish and Mohammad Mohaqiq has suggested to establish 3 additional districts in Jaghori based on its population. “This does not mean disintegration of the district”, added Hedayat. He also informed the government has sent a delegation to collect views from Jaghori residents on the matter.
