KABUL/ TALOQAN (SW): A number of civil society activists said at a press conference in Kabul on Tuesday that nearly 1000 illegal armed men have been active in northern Takhar province for a year now.
They said that these illegal armed men have caused insecurity in areas near Kokcha River and Rustaq district, which have concerned the residents in the province.
Baharamuddin Hesam, a civil activist in the province, speaking at the conference, said that residents in Rustaq staged a protest demonstration over the activities of these armed men last week and urged the government to stop their activities.
He said that the delegation sent by the government to Rutaq could not solve the problem.
Samtullah Timori, spokesman for the governor in the province, has said in this regard that efforts are underway in the province to arrest the illegal armed men and put an end to their activities.
The civil activists however, urged upon the Kabul government to put an end to the cruelty of these armed men, and disarm them as soon as possible.
They said that if the government did not pay attention to their demands, they would stage massive demonstrations in Kabul and Takhar.
