KABUL (SW): The Transitional Justice civil society group has pronounced killing of civilians in Sar-i-Pul’s Mirza Olang village as war crime and crime against humanity.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday in this connection, Abdullah Ahmadi, a member of the Transitional Justice civil society group, said the militants are now increasingly targeting ethnic and religious minorities, women, children and elder people. “Mass killing of the civilians is an example of war crimes, there is no precedence to this in the past many years”, he said. Ahmadi criticized the government for delaying deployment of additional troops to the restive village five days after the militants stormed it. “We have over 300 thousands armed forces, and a small group of the Taliban is nothing against it, so that is why the Transitional Justice civil society group is concerned about the situation”, he added.
Similar gatherings were organized in neighboring Baghlan and Bamyan provinces against the Sar-i-Pul carnage. Participants of these rallies harshly criticized the government for its failure in securing the civilian population. They urged upon the government and the international community to aid and support the needy population of Mirza Olang, and bring the perpetrators of this incident to justice.
The Taliban claim they have only attacked members of the pro-government local militia. No comments have been made by Daesh about the matter. Local officials have blamed both the groups for killing over 50 civilians here.
