KABUL (SW): A number of politicians and civil society activists on Wednesday called for the trial of former president Hamid Karzai for his alleged pro-Taliban stance.
Fazal Karim Aimaq, a member of the High Peace Council (HPC) told a press conference here that Karzai in his an interview with a media organization did not speak as a former president but he sounded more like an ally of the Taliban. Aimaq charged that Karzai has forgotten the Taliban’s killing spree.
The former president caused controversy when he said Taliban are citizens of the country and can take control of any part of the country.
Atta Mohammad Dehkan, another speaker at the press conference pronounced Ghani’s remarks disgrace to the security forces and civilians who lost lives in the wake of ragging violence in the country. Dehkan also called for change the name of Hamid Karzai International Airport.
Separately, the Chief Executive Officer has also condemned Karzai’s remarks. Abdullah Abdullah has said that these remarks clearly sound supporting the rebels and challenging the legitimacy of the fight against the rebels. Karzai’s remarks have also angered members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house). Zahir Sadat, a member of the house told Salam Watandar that such remakrs prove that Karzai secretely supports the rebels.
