KABUL (SW) – Following announcement of the final results, a number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) candidates from Kabul have called for special investigative tribunal.
One such candidate, Ajmal Gulab Mangal, said he earned a total of 4700 votes according to the initial results, but a ‘political deal’ over his votes has deprived him of his right. Another protesting candidate, Mohammad Zia Azimi Shinozada, said he would not stay mum, and would seek to fight for his right.
A female protesting candidate, Saleema Nekbin, said she got 1352 votes according to the initial results. She charged her votes have been ‘given away to power-grabbers’. She demanded a special tribunal should be formed to investigate the elections.
She vowed to gather facts in this regard and join the protest camp by candidates from different provinces at the Zanbaq Square.
Heela is another protesting female candidate from Paktika province. She said protesters from 13 provinces and 15 female candidates who were named as winners in the first list would continue with the protest against alleged corruption and ‘buying of votes by extra rich candidates’.
Among others, WJ candidates Zahera Faizan from Nuristan and Najla Faizi from Helmand also demanded establishment of a special tribunal in this regard.
Commenting on this, Shah Hussain Murtazawi, said the protesting candidates can lodge their complaints at the legal institutions.
