FAIZABAD (SW): Hundreds of protestors on Thursday took to the streets in Faizabad demanding resignation of the provincial governor and police chief.
The protestors blamed the provincial administration for ultimate failure in ensuring peace, and inability to reclaim control of Warduj, Yamgan, Jurm, Kohistan and Teshkan districts from the Taliban for good. They asserted the officials failed to keep promises, and should now resign respectively.
Naijbullah Fakhri, representative of refugees from Jurm, said ragging insecurity and repeated fall of the districts demonstrate the failure of the officials. Rahemuddin, a representative of internally displaced persons in Warduj, said lack of attention on the part of the government has allowed the terrorists to establish bastions here.
The protestors feared if situation remained like this, the Taliban’s clout in the province would further spread.
In the meantime, Abdul Khaliq Aqsai, the provincial police chief, has said the security forces are not incompetent, and have inflicted heavy losses upon the armed rebels in recent clashes. He added clean-up operations are underway across the province.
The protesters have vowed to spread the agitation drive if their demands are not met.
