KABUL (SW): A civil society group urged the government on Thursday to ensure equality in the transition of justice drive.
The “Today’s Youth” group welcomed the peace deal between the government and the Hezb-i-Islami while calling for similar pacts with other resistant movements. Attaullah Hairan, head of the TY told reporters that it is high time now that the transition justice applies on all. He added that with arrival of the Hezb-i-Islami, the Taliban and other resistant groups would lose the reason to carry on fighting against the government.
The group, however, urged President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani that peace does not mean to simply pardon those involved in killings of innocent civilan. It asked for justice, accountability and above all respect for the rights of the victims.
Last week, the government inked a peace deal with the Hizb-e-Isalmi party of the former Prime Minister Gulbudin Hekmatyar. Pir Sayed Ahmad Galani, the head of the High Peace Council (HPC) hosted the two sides at his home as they broke the deal. Speaking at the occasion, Eng. Mohammad Khan, the Frist Deputy of Executive Office said that signing this draft agreement with Hizb-e-Islami is a step to be welcomed.
