KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said ragging violence and terrorism are hindering growth of tourism sector in the country.
He said this while addressing an academic seminar on the impacts of terrorism on tourism. Ghani said up to five million foreign tourists would visit the country if the menace of terrorism is controlled. He said historically Afghanistan has been at the crossroads of cultural exchange, and in future it shall revive its glorious past. The President underlined the significance of tourism in achieving this goal.
In his speech, Ghani noted that tourists bridge gaps between countries and nations. He added Afghanistan with its rich culture and tradition is determined to promote tourism. The President stressed effective counter terrorism strategy is pivotal to promote tourism in the country. In this regard, he mentioned the Afghan government would work on improving tourist attractions, and would also use dams for this purpose.
In his extensive over view, Ghani highlighted the historic significance of Afghanistan and its worth for foreign visitors.
Mohammad Rasool Bawari, interim Minister for Culture and Information, said on the occasion that a notable progress has been made in the sector of tourism despite so many hurdles.
