KABUL (SW): The Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Wednesday paid tribute to General Muhayuddin Ghori, commander of the 207th Zafar Corps who died a day earlier in a helicopter crash.
General Ghori died following a helicopter crash in Badghis province on Tuesday. The General was on his way to assess security situation in the restive Murghab district. Provincial director of the NDS, director for security at the police headquarters, chairman of the provincial council and other notable officials got injured in the accident.
Nematullah Ghafari, second deputy speaker of the house, while praising the services of the late General, called for investigations into the crash. He tasked the WJ’s commission on home security to probe the matter. The parliamentarians lamented the loss.
Talking to Salam Watandar, Mohammad Raadmansh, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defence (MoD), said that the crash was caused by a technical problem with the copter. He discarded the possibility of the rebels hitting the copter down.
Following the death of Gen. Ghori, a number of civilians gathered in his hometown Feroz Koh in Ghor province demanding the government to declare three days of mourning.
