Call for long-due elections at the AFF

KABUL (SW) – A number of regional football associations from Balkh, Khost and 15 other provinces have set-up a protest camp in Kabul demanding termination of Keramuddin Keram, the long-serving president of the Afghanistan Football Federation.

Representatives of different football associations, former and current players and coaches are part of this agitation drive demanding fresh elections at the AFF. They charged the current leadership at the football federation has deliberately delayed the long-due elections here.

The protesters urged the Afghanistan Physical Fitness Directorate to push for elections in the AFF.

In a meeting with the protestors, Hafeezullah Wali Rahimi, head of the Olympic Committee and the APFD, stressed the AFF should hold elections, and soon the long-due elections would be held here. He noted that based on a meeting between the head of International Olympic Committee and the Afghan president, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, there is no exception at the AFF in terms of elections.

Meanwhile, the AFF has announced it is awaiting a time-table from the FIFA for the elections. This comes as the AFF complained to the FIFA about ‘political interferences’ in its affairs upon which international experts visited Afghanistan and suggested delay in elections at the federation.

The current president of the AFF, Keram, has been on this post since 2004.
