KABUL (SW) – Three electoral teams of the presidential polls on Wednesday called for removal of Mohammad Haneef Danishyar from the election commission.
This included the teams led by presidential candidates Abdullah Abdullah, Gulbudin Hekmatyar and Rehmatullah Nabil. They charged Danishyar of falsification of documents, and demanded he must be removed from his job and prosecuted by law enforcement agencies.
Noor Rahman Akhlaqi, a senior member of Abdullah’s camp, said in a news conference that Danishyar does not meet the minimum legal age to join the election commission and must be referred to the Prosecutor General's office. He added that Danishyar had falsified his credentials and that the matter should be seriously investigated by the Prosecutor General's office.
Akhlaqi said Danishyar has been attending meetings of the election commission illegally and is signing documents that should be prevented.
However, in a social media post, Danishyar rejected these allegations. He said his documents were thoroughly scrutinized, and the recent episode against him is politically motivated.
The allegations come as a local media outlet published documents suggesting that Danishyar, a current member of the election commission, had not met the legal age to join the commission.
According to Election Law, anyone who wants to become a member of the election commission must have reached the age of 35.
