Call for end to ambiguities surrounding elections, peace process

22/08/2019

KABUL (SW) – A local election watchdog alliance on Thursday called for removing ambiguities in priorities surrounding the election and peace process.

Representatives of this alliance told a presser that the Taliban insurgents insist the peace process should be given importance while as the government is keener on the elections, but the U.S. has been emphasizing on both. They demanded these ambiguities should be resolved at the earliest so that the people can decide freely.

Qais Yasini, member of this alliance, said the people have every right to be informed and the ambiguities removed. Aneesa Aatif, another member of the alliance, said the government and the international community should tell the masses if elections would indeed be held on Sep. 28.

This comes as the U.S. and Taliban hold ninth round of peace talks in the Qatari capital, Doha.
