KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has launched first of a kind legal aid telephone help line in the country.
Officials said on the occasion the helpline has been created within the framework of the MoJ with a clear objective to provide free legal aid, and institutionalize social justice in the country.
Mohammad Tamim Haidary, one of the operators of the center, said citizens can call the toll free number 188 from all over the country via any telecommunication service provider to seek legal aid for criminal or civil matters. Sayed Mohammad Hashimi, deputy minister at the MoJ, said $1.5 million have been earmarked for this project. “10 operators have been trained for the legal help line so far”, added Hashimi.
The helpline has been launched at a time when many citizens are not aware about their basic rights. According to legal experts, the helpline 188 will be helpful to the general public in many ways.
