KABUL (SW): Officials at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) have said that breast cancer takes hundreds of lives every year in the country.
Ferozuddin Feroz, the minister for the Ministry of Public Health, stated that Afghanistan stands among the countries where breast cancer takes hundreds of lives on annual basis. He added that unawareness and poverty are the main reasons behind this problem.
The minister for the MoPH noted that every year as many as 20, 000 persons get affected by cancer in the country. He added that out of this total 1700 women die due to breast cancer on annual basis. The minster asserted that obesity, consuming alcohol, early period and untimely pregnancies are the causes endangering women to be affected by cancer.
In the meantime, Shinkai Karokhil, the head for anti-cancer foundation, notified that to prevent breast cancer, every woman has to get her breasts checked at least once every three months.
In the meantime, Sherin Agha Zarif, the chancellor for Kabul Medical University, stated that cancer takes 14 lives in very single minute all over the world. He added that by the year 2030, 70% population of the underdeveloped countries would die of cancer.
The chancellor for Kabul Medical University stated that as many as 11 Afghan doctors have been sent to foreign countries for getting higher education in this field.
To prevent cancer, the MoPH has launched anti-cancer foundation. With the assistance provided by Italian donors, the MoPH has also established a center for prevention of cancer at the Herat Public Hospital.
