Breakaway Taliban faction pronounce Pakistan as enemy

LASHKARGAH (SW): The rebel Taliban faction led by Mullah Rasoul has pronounced Pakistan as stanch enemy of Afghanistan.

One of Mullah Rasoul’s commanders Mawlawi Abdul Ghani told a gathering of the group’s fighters in southern Helmand province on Saturday. The secret meeting was held on the outskirts of provincial capital Lashkargah in the Trekh Nawar village. Mawlawai Ghani said in his remarks that they would not serve as pawns for Pakistan, Iran or England.

He went on to say that Pakistan remains actively engaged in war against Afghanistan and regardless of who forms government in Kabul, Islamabad would not allow Afghanistan at ease. The rebel commanders expressed willingness to strike a peace deal with the Afghan government if the main leadership agrees to do so. Abdul Ghani also vowed to carry on fighting until the complete withdrawal of the foreign forces from Afghanistan.

Selab, another military commander of the Taliban’s Rasul faction told the gathering that Pakistan is to be blamed for the clashes at the Torkham crossing point. Selab added that they would not allow Pakistan to wage destruction in Afghanistan.

It is vital to note that following the revelation of Mullah Omar’s death, who served as the Taliban’s founding supreme leader, the group split in two major groups. One was first led by Mullah Mansour, who died in a US drone strike in Pakistan last month, and is now headed by Mullah Hibatullah while the other group is led by Mullah Rasul.
