KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) has said the closure of Torkhum and Chaman crossing points by neighboring Pakistan has left quite meager impact on the markets in Afghanistan.
Sayam Pisarlay, spokesman for the ACCI, told Salam Watandar it is the export season for fresh vegetables and fruits from Pakistan to Afghanistan and the Central Asia, hence the private sector of Pakistan is bearing the brunt of border closure. “The border closure has not affected prices in Afghanistan markets since the country has alternative import routes from Central Asian states and via the Chabahar port of Iran”, informed Pisarlay.
Vendors in Kabul say the border closure has only affected the prices of some fresh vegetables and fruits that are imported from Pakistan. Ghulam Sakhi, a fruit trader, told Salam Watandar prices of tomato and orange have gone up.
