SAMANGAN (SW) – Rescue workers have recovered eight dead bodies from a collapsed coal mine in Samangan province, an official said on Wednesday.
Deputy governor, Siffat Ullah, said there were a total of 20 workers inside the mine when gas explosion inside the coal mine made it collapse. He confirmed 12 bodies of the workers still remain under the collapsed mine. He added the primary task now is to clear the dangerous gas for rescue workers to get inside.
A day earlier, governor of Dara Soof district, Sultan Sultani, said the workers hailed from Balkh, Daikundi and Baghlan provinces.
The provincial police command said on Tuesday that rescue teams reached the spot following a loud blast, which was reported at the coal mine before the tunnel collapsed to trap the mine workers.
